Bitcoin Price Today Slips Below $82,000 Before US CPI Data
Bitcoin price today is about $81,950, down roughly 2% in 24 hours, as traders wait for US inflation data. The slide pushes the coin back below $82,000, Goodreturns reported on Tuesday morning.
Ethereum fell about 4%. CoinGecko data cited by Coingabbar put Bitcoin at $81,969 and Ethereum at $2,450. The crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped 12 points, from 69 to 57. That remains in the “greed” zone.
Why Bitcoin price today is under pressure
US consumer price data is due on Wednesday 14 October. Producer prices follow on Thursday. Wall Street expects core CPI of 0.21% for September, down from 0.29% in August. Energy costs may push headline CPI higher.
Markets price about an 80% chance that the Federal Reserve holds rates this month. They price about an 88% chance of a hike in December, per Trading Economics data cited by Goodreturns. The dollar index is near 102.5, its highest since April 2025.
Leveraged traders paid the price. Coinglass counted $488.61 million in liquidations, of which $406.48 million were longs. About 118,000 traders were hit.
ETF flows and the October pattern
US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $680 million in the week of 5 to 9 October. Over the past 13 sessions they added only $232 million. Demand has cooled since the inflows of late September.
October has been kind to Bitcoin in most years. It finished higher in eight of the last ten, per Coinglass data cited by KuCoin. Last October was the exception, after a record high of $126,080 and a crash with more than $19 billion in liquidations.
Bitcoin sat near the same level on 9 October, as we reported in our earlier price report. The new factors are the sharper drop in sentiment and the CPI test ahead.
Watch Wednesday’s inflation print and the next ETF flow data. Those two items are likely to set the tone.
Fact basis: Goodreturns (13 October 2026), Coingabbar using CoinGecko data (13 October 2026), KuCoin News (13 October 2026), Coinglass and Trading Economics figures as cited. Prices move quickly. This is not investment advice, and cryptocurrency carries a high risk of loss.
