Secular Voices Ask for Equal Space in Public Debate

Secular voices are often misunderstood as simply being against religion. In public life, the stronger argument is usually about equal citizenship: the right of believers and nonbelievers to speak, question, and disagree safely.

A healthy society does not require everyone to share the same metaphysical answers. It requires a civic framework where no group can use power to silence another.

The future of pluralism depends on making room for conscience in more than one form, including the conscience that does not speak in religious language.
