Bitcoin Tops $65,000 as Cooling US Inflation Revives Appetite

Bitcoin topped 65,000 dollars on Wednesday for the first time since 22 June. The rally followed softer US inflation data. Traders read the numbers as relief for risk assets. The move marks a three-week high.

Why Bitcoin jumped on the inflation print

The Consumer Price Index fell 0.4% in June. That was the sharpest monthly drop since April 2020. Annual inflation slowed to 3.5%, below forecasts. Core inflation eased to 2.6% from 2.9% in May.

Cooler prices cut the odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike. Markets now expect the Fed to hold at its late-July meeting. Cheaper money tends to lift speculative assets. Bitcoin led the response.

Caution still lingers under the surface

The picture is not all bullish. US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows near 425 million dollars on 13 July. Big funds led the withdrawals. Price strength and institutional caution now sit side by side.

The mood has shifted fast. Just days ago, war headlines drove extreme fear across crypto. The Fear and Greed Index has since edged up, though it stays low.

The macro backdrop now dominates the tape. Traders track the Fed more than any chart. Rate expectations move faster than fundamentals. Bitcoin increasingly trades like a high-beta tech stock.

Ether joined the rally with a firmer bid. The wider market cap climbed alongside Bitcoin. Volumes rose as risk appetite returned. Still, dominance stayed tilted toward Bitcoin itself.

Analysts urge caution on thin summer liquidity. Sharp moves can exaggerate in quiet markets. A single data surprise could swing prices hard. The next inflation and jobs prints loom large.

Whether the bounce holds may depend on the Fed’s tone. Any hawkish surprise could reverse it quickly. For now, softer inflation has handed bulls a window. CoinDesk has the market detail here.
