Bitcoin Forecasts Split as Standard Chartered Holds Its $100,000 Call
Bitcoin forecast ranges for the end of 2026 have split unusually wide. Standard Chartered has renewed its $100,000 year-end target. Prediction markets sit far below that. The gap is the story.
Prices offer little guidance either way. Bitcoin traded near $64,700 on Monday. It has moved sideways for weeks. Ethereum hovered close to $1,871.
What the Bitcoin forecast gap reveals
The Bitcoin forecast gap reveals genuine disagreement, not noise. Standard Chartered sees institutional demand pushing prices sharply higher. Polymarket bettors put the best odds on a close between $70,000 and $75,000. Both cannot be close to right.
Sentiment sits nearer the cautious camp. The Fear and Greed Index has fallen to 29. That reading signals fear rather than confidence. Traders are not positioned for a melt-up.
Yet the month has not been bad. Bitcoin and Ethereum are both higher over the past thirty days. Modest gains have arrived without excitement. Quiet accumulation looks different from a rally.
The bull case rests on flows. Institutional products keep drawing money. Supply issuance is fixed and small. Sustained buying against fixed supply eventually moves price.
The bear case rests on distance. A move to $100,000 requires roughly a 55 percent gain in months. Nothing in current volumes suggests that momentum. Targets set in calmer conditions can age badly.
Retail investors should treat both numbers carefully. Forecasts are marketing as much as analysis. Banks and betting markets each have incentives. Neither knows the future.
Our earlier note on returning ETF inflows captured the cautious improvement. The forecasts have simply run ahead of it.
Watch the flows and the range. The rest is opinion with a price tag.
