Strategy bitcoin buying pauses as firm spends $204.9m on preferred shares

Strategy bitcoin buying paused last week. The company bought no BTC in the week to 25 October.

Coin Gabbar reports that Strategy filed its 8-K on 26 October, covering 19 to 25 October. The week before, it bought 267 BTC, a figure Coingape also reported.

Where the Strategy bitcoin money went

Strategy spent $204.9 million on a buyback of 2,068,459 STRC preferred shares instead. It now holds 848,517 BTC at an average cost of $75,446 each. Using a price of $79,688, Coin Gabbar values the holding at about $67.6 billion. That is roughly 5.6 percent above cost.

What the market is doing

The pause came as bitcoin sat just under the $80,000 mark that many traders watch.

Bitcoin traded near $79,769 on Tuesday morning, down 0.1 percent in 24 hours, according to Analytics Insight. Its market value is near $1.6 trillion. Support sits near $79,000 and resistance near $80,800.

Traders are watching the Federal Reserve’s decision on 28 October. Markets price a 90.6 percent chance that rates stay unchanged. Some commentary also points to talk of a rate rise in December.

Flows are soft. US spot bitcoin funds lost $635.6 million on 22 October. Mudrex data shows 19,800 BTC moved to exchanges in 24 hours. Coins moving to exchanges can signal selling, though they do not prove it.

One quiet week is not a policy change. Strategy has skipped purchases before and then returned. Yet the shift in spending matters. Money used to retire preferred shares is money not used to buy coins.

Price action is covered in our earlier report on bitcoin falling below $80,000 before the Fed meeting. This story adds a new fact: the biggest corporate holder stood aside last week.

Fact basis: Coin Gabbar (27 October 2026), Coingape on the prior week’s 267 BTC purchase, and Analytics Insight (27 October 2026). The zero-purchase figure rests mainly on Coin Gabbar’s reading of the 8-K. This article is general information, not investment advice. Crypto assets are volatile and you can lose money.
