Bitcoin price slips below $82,000 as Fear & Greed cools

The Bitcoin price slid to near $81,900 on Friday, 9 October, extending a week of weak trading. Bitcoin briefly broke below $81,000, its lowest level in almost three weeks, before bouncing towards $82,000, KuCoin’s daily report said.

CoinGecko data cited by Coingabbar put Bitcoin at about $81,905 at 01:30 UTC. That was down 1.5% from roughly $82,721 a day earlier. Market capitalisation stood near $1.64 trillion.

Why the Bitcoin price is under pressure

Trading was busy even as prices fell. Daily volume rose to about $42.6 billion from $35.9 billion on 8 October. The total crypto market lost about 2.5%.

Ether fell 3.87% to $2,474.62. The Fear and Greed Index dropped to 59 from 64. That is still in “greed” territory, but the mood has cooled.

KuCoin pointed to several outside forces. The 10-year US Treasury yield had climbed to 5.31%, near its highest level since 2002. Higher yields tend to weigh on risk assets. The yield eased after President Trump said the US would not attack Iran before the midterm elections.

US-Iran talks over passage through the Strait of Hormuz also stalled, according to the report. Rising energy prices raise inflation and rate risks. We covered the shipping crisis in our earlier Hormuz report.

US stocks fell for a second day, with the Nasdaq down 1.25% and the S&P 500 down 0.47%, KuCoin reported.

Traders now watch $83,000, which Bitcoin lost as support. The report said failure to reclaim it could open a move towards $80,000. That is analysis, not a certainty. Our earlier price report shows how quickly levels have shifted this week.

One more data point drew attention. A US government wallet moved 12,267 BTC, worth about $1.01 billion, on 8 October. Coingabbar did not link the transfer to the price drop, and neither do we.

Ethereum developers also reported that the Glamsterdam upgrade is live on the Sepolia test network. No mainnet date has been confirmed.
